Sound Forms 2022: Bounding in Void
New commissioned work in collaboration with sound artist Kin Lam
Venue: Tai Kwun F Hall
Artist Statement
Sound and light are the key elements in this collaborative project. However, instead of viewing sound and light as two independent, individual and static elements interacting to create a new work, we reimagine working with sound and light through asking the following questions:
I: What is sound? What is light? Why light and sound?
II: How do light and sound intra-act, instead of interact? How do the material and medium of light and sound reconfigure through repetition/ decay/ rhythm?
III: And what do we get from that? Where do we get from there?
We are like two physics professors conducting experiments in this project. We hack the seemingly known materials and methods to explore the unknown. We carefully repeat the process to look for differences, similarities and the infinite possibilities in-between, hoping to get closer to the truth within the cosmic rays. We travel, spiral and oscillate in the stream of vibrating particles and electromagnetic waves. We are two physics professors inside the magnetic river.
